Last Pull

Well, these days are over, at least until next year. The Charles Mercer was pulled out of service and is in dry dock undergoing its annual maintenance and repairs.

  3. Over the whole of the Netherlands are canals with a little path beside for horses to pull a boat but nowhere you see that anymore. I think but am not sure that it is forbidden by law these days to let animals do such work even for tourists with a small boat. A bit a pity because it is such a romantic picture.

  7. I didn't know horses would pull a boat. The horse is probably happy the season is over.

    1. If you were to see them work, you would see how much they enjoy it. I think hauling things for them must be like retrieving things for a Labrador Retriever. And I should also say that they are pampered by our National Park Service and have a strictly regulated work schedule.

    1. I think they live well in the off season. If you care to learn more about them, here's the National Park Service's link: https://www.nps.gov/choh/planyourvisit/meetthemules.htm.
