It's things like this that bring history to life. I taught history and it was always a challenge to capture the kids attention but I tried. For example, when we did a section on the Vietnam war, I brought in veterans with mock fire bases, German Shepherds who were descendants of dogs used in the war, nurses who were there in the worst years - the mid-60s. The kids ate up that stuff. Real history is truly exciting, like this pier!
